Peacock

A peacock fans its tail for an audience, and the Series 28 costume runs on exactly that principle, with everything else in the outfit serving the display.

Data Matrix codes: Peacock

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Everything here hangs on one oversized piece: a spread fan of feathers in blues and turquoise. The rest of the costume simply keeps it company, which is why the Peacock works best at the front of a display — squeezed in among the other minifigures, it loses half its effect.

A sunflower comes in the box. It is a nice touch in a scene, though reviewers agree the figure does not hold that accessory especially firmly, so in a younger child's hands it tends to end up on the carpet rather than in the Peacock's fist.

One thing is worth saying plainly to parents: this is a dressed-up human, not a bird for the toy zoo. A child who was expecting a real peacock can be disappointed by that. Children who love parades, dressing up and anything that shimmers, though, usually name it as their first pick of the series. On a shelf the Peacock holds its own, even without the other eleven animals around it.

Did you know: A peacock's "tail" is really a set of elongated covert feathers above the tail — and only the males grow them.
