About this minifigure
The costume is built around a single motif, and it is that motif which gives the silhouette its character. The effect is fierce, but in a cartoon way — this is not a monster meant to frighten anyone, more someone trying very hard to look dangerous and not quite managing it.
Older children like figures like this because they can be woven into a story: swamp, jungle, expedition, chase. For the youngest it can read as a little too sharp, and across this set that caution really applies here and almost nowhere else.
In a collection it takes on the role the shark from Series 15 once played: a big, expressive predator suit. Within 71051 it works as the visual counterweight to the Cat, the Bunny and the Koala — without it the whole series would be noticeably gentler, and duller to line up on a shelf.
