Monkey

LEGO Series 28 — Animals · 71051 No. 4
Monkey

Picture the classic monkey moment: the banana goes missing, the branch swings, the thief is already three trees away. That is the joke this costume tells.

Data Matrix codes: Monkey

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Monkey suits have appeared rarely in this line, and the best known remains the gorilla from Series 3, now treated as a classic. The Series 28 version plays clearly for comedy rather than realism, and that is what it does best.

There is a banana in the box, an accessory so obvious it is hard to picture another one. It gives the Monkey something to do in a scene immediately, whether it lands in a jungle, a zoo, a pirate ship or a playground. That makes it one of the few characters in the series that is not tied to a single setting from the start.

In the collection it rounds out the exotic block alongside the Lion, the Crocodile and the Parrot. Lined up together they make a ready-made safari scene, which matters if you are thinking about displaying the whole of 71051 rather than just ticking twelve names off a list.

Did you know: The first monkey costume in the Collectible Minifigures line was the gorilla from Series 3, released in 2011.
