Goldfish

LEGO Series 28 — Animals · 71051 No. 3
Goldfish

What does a goldfish actually do all day? It circles, it gapes, it waits for food to drop from above — and here it does all three standing upright on two legs.

Data Matrix codes: Goldfish

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

The visual joke lands instantly and works on everyone, from a four-year-old to an adult collector. Among the cats, dogs and lions, the Goldfish stands out on colour alone, with a silhouette you could not confuse with anything else in the set.

A tub of fish food comes with it — a small thing, but the one that finishes the idea off. Children mostly use the Goldfish in water scenes: aquarium, swimming pool, beach, and most often paired up with the Dolphin from the same series.

There is no franchise and no backstory behind it. Just a loud colour, a clear shape and a concept that raises a laugh the moment you stand the figure on a desk. Sometimes that is exactly enough to make this the favourite of the whole set. Collectors add one more argument: fish costumes have turned up so rarely in this line that a new head of the type draws attention straight away.

Did you know: The myth that goldfish have a three-second memory is false — in studies they remember learned tasks for many months.
