About this minifigure
The mane piece decides everything here. It gives a silhouette readable from across the room and makes the Lion look like a parade entrant or the lead in a school play. You do not need to pick the figure up to know who it is and what it was made for.
In play the Lion becomes the leader by default: king of the animals, head of the pride, commander of the jungle expedition. Together with the Monkey, the Parrot and the Crocodile it forms a ready-made safari set, with nothing needed from outside the series.
Collectors are interested in large pieces like the mane for a different reason: they rarely appear outside collectible series, so they get sought out separately later for people's own builds. That is a detail which lifts a figure's value whether someone is completing all of 71051 or chasing a single one. The Lion itself looks best face-on — in profile the mane loses some of its sweep.
