Dalmatian

LEGO Series 28 — Animals · 71051 No. 7
Dalmatian

The spotted dog riding on the fire engine has had a fixed place in children's books for as long as anyone can remember, and children name this figure before it is out of the box.

Data Matrix codes: Dalmatian

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Few animals arrive with this many ready-made associations already attached: the fire-station dog, the spotted film star, a fixture of children's picture books. That is why the Dalmatian works not only on a shelf but as a character with its own place in a game.

It pairs best with LEGO City sets — the fire station, the engine, the park. The frisbee that comes with it pushes the figure out onto a lawn rather than onto a display stand. That is a rare quality in a series full of exotic animals: this figure stops being purely collectible and joins everyday play.

For a collector, a spotted pattern always tests the printing — either it comes out clean or it spoils the whole figure. Here the spots are the main motif, so they decide how the Dalmatian looks in a row next to the Cat and the Lion. Study close-up photos of the figure, then, rather than only the artwork on the leaflet that comes in the box.

Did you know: Dalmatians are born completely white — the trademark spots only appear after a few weeks of life.
