About this minifigure
The 2001 release turned the fairytale formula upside down: the hero is ugly, bad-tempered and wants nothing more than peace and quiet on his own swamp, while the prince turns out to be the problem rather than the rescue. Together with that famous line about ogres being like onions, because they have layers, it made him one of the most recognisable animated characters there is.
In practice his number is the first to disappear from the shop carton. When a child says they want the Shrek one, this is usually exactly who they mean, and the same number tends to clear swap lists and collectors' tables early.
Without him the whole line-up loses its reference point. It is only next to the ogre that you see how small Farquaad is and how much Donkey talks. Even someone with no interest in LEGO will recognise this silhouette on a shelf.
