Szass Tam
Isn't a lich just a skeleton in robes? Szass Tam goes a good deal further: he is an archmage, he holds the real power in Thay, and in the Forgotten Realms he makes plans measured in centuries.

About this minifigure
Szass Tam belongs to the Red Wizards of Thay, a land where magic is currency and necromancy counts as part of the civic order. He stopped being alive a long time ago: as a lich he bound his soul to a phylactery and gained the one thing no mortal rival has, which is time. In campaigns set in Faerun he is the sort of antagonist saved for the very end.
Necromancy and deep, planar evil are his department within the series. The character reads fine without any grounding in the Forgotten Realms, since one look at a skeletal sorcerer in robes tells you what he is.
Collectors appreciate how easily he finds a home outside D&D as well, fitting any diorama involving dungeons, tombs and skeletons, including ones assembled from Halloween minifigure series. For parents it comes down to this: he is a storybook villain, played completely straight.
