Mind Flayer
Which monster do D&D fans recognise as fast as the red dragon? Most would say the Mind Flayer, the tentacle-headed illithid that dwells in the deep places.

About this minifigure
Illithids count among the most iconic antagonists in the game's history: a humanoid with a tentacled head, feeding on the brains of its victims and wielding psionics. They rule colonies deep underground, plan on a scale of generations and treat other races as a resource. Video games set in the D&D world have kept them firmly in view in recent years.
Nothing else in this series comes close for sheer monstrousness, and adult fans name this figure first when asked what they actually care about.
Parents deserve the plain version: this is fantasy horror, but delivered in LEGO's register, so the dread never gets heavy. Children tend to take to it the same way they take to the monsters in Ninjago or Monkie Kid. Collectors treat it as non-negotiable, because leaving the illithid out makes the set read like an unfinished story.
Did you know: The mind flayer came from Gary Gygax's own pen and appeared as early as 1975, in one of the earliest newsletters put out by D&D's publisher.
