Data Matrix codes: Werewolf Spider-Man

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 4.

About this minifigure

Werewolf Spider-Man is one of the many Peters drifting through the Spider Society crowd in the second animated film. He keeps the full spider skill set and adds fur, fangs and an animal side that is hard to keep a lid on.

The theme of losing control of your own body suits Spider-Man unusually well, and Marvel has worked it before — notably in the Man-Spider stories, where Peter mutates into a monstrous arachnid. Werewolves have been running around this universe for decades too, thanks to Jack Russell of Werewolf by Night, so the spider take on the idea sits inside a longer tradition.

Where the other figures stick to recognisable heroes, this one is pure "what if". A monster in a spider suit works just as well on a Marvel shelf as it does in a Halloween-themed collection.
