The Spider Society takes its orders from Miguel O'Hara, a geneticist out of the corporate New York of 2099.

Data Matrix codes: Spider-Man 2099

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 4.

About this minifigure

Marvel came up with him in 1992, launching a line of comics set a century ahead. Miguel works for Alchemax, the corporation that runs the city, and it is his own DNA-rewriting experiment that gets away from him. So there is no radioactive spider in this origin — there are talons, fangs and organic webbing fired from the wrists.

The costume is deep blue with a huge red spider whose legs spill across the shoulders, plus a membranous cape for gliding, which puts him a long way from the standard red-and-blue. On screen Miguel is the permanently exhausted commander policing the consistency of the multiverse, and he is the one who stands against Miles in the second film.

Comics readers rate him highly because he carries his own long history rather than being another variation on Peter Parker. Getting him at minifigure scale, as series 71050 does, does not happen often.

Did you know: Spider-Man 2099 was created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi; Miguel is of Mexican-Irish descent and is regarded as the first Latino Spider-Man.
