Mercedes-AMG

LEGO F1 Race Cars · 71049 No. 2

The badge on this car is the same one people pass on the motorway every day, only here it sits on bare silver and matt black bodywork built at Brackley.

Data Matrix codes: Mercedes-AMG

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Even people with no interest in racing know Mercedes-AMG Petronas. The phrase Silver Arrows and the Lewis Hamilton era travelled a long way beyond the sport. The team builds its power units at Brixworth, and it has spent years circling the same palette of bare silver and matt black. In bricks that looks surprisingly smart.

A collection without it feels unfinished, because the team's championship run belongs to the modern history of the sport. For older fans it doubles as a souvenir of seasons when the title fight was between two drivers in the same garage.

There is a trap here for anyone buying blind, though: dark, restrained colours get mixed up with a couple of the other cars, especially when someone is comparing them against a photo on a phone. The code on the packaging settles it without any guessing.

Did you know: Mercedes won the constructors' championship eight times in a row, from 2014 to 2021 — the longest such run in Formula 1 history.

Got a box? Check whether it is Mercedes-AMG

Scan the Data Matrix code on the bottom of the box and see what is inside — without opening it, and without installing anything.
