About this minifigure
F1 Academy exists to give young women a genuine route into single-seaters and, in time, into Formula 1. The races run alongside F1 weekends, and individual drivers are backed by teams from the main grid, which is the kind of visibility that was very hard to come by in this sport before.
In the brick collection it is the odd one out, in the best sense. None of the ten teams stands behind it, so telling it apart takes a second and explaining the difference to a child takes not much longer. The car itself looks like a proper model rather than an add-on bolted onto the series.
Plenty of parents end up calling it the most interesting thing in the set, because it opens a conversation about racing not being a boys-only sport. For a collector it is non-negotiable: without it, the set is not a set.
