McLaren

LEGO F1 Race Cars · 71049 No. 4

McLaren races in a papaya orange that sits closer to a traffic cone than to any shade a carmaker would offer a customer, and it reads exactly that way in bricks.

Data Matrix codes: McLaren

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

The team was founded by the New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren and has spent decades near the front of Formula 1, with breaks for a few leaner seasons. The orange livery, now its signature, is a nod to the team's earliest years, when it raced in exactly this colour.

In brick form McLaren wins on colour alone. You can spot it from the other side of the room, and it is usually the one children reach for when all twelve cars are lined up and a favourite has to be named. The orange holds its own in company, too, neither disappearing among the darker liveries nor being shouted down by the brighter ones.

Fans need no persuading that there is more to it than a nice colour: after years in the midfield, the Woking team is back at the very top. On a shelf, papaya orange and Ferrari red set each other off.

Did you know: In 2024 McLaren won the constructors' championship for the first time since 1998 — a wait of 26 seasons.
