About this minifigure
Football returns to the Collectible Minifigures every few years, almost always as an outfield player. This time it is the keeper's turn, the only person out there permitted to do what nobody else in the team may.
No one in Britain needs football explained to them, which gives this figure a head start. A child who goes in goal at break time sees themselves at once, and in play the goalkeeper organises everyone else: it sets the target and hands out the other roles.
For a stadium or pitch build, characters like this act as scenery — two teams plus keepers and the scene is complete. Sporting minifigures from the numbered series rarely have equivalents in the standard sets, so this is more or less the only way to get one, which makes assembling a full starting eleven a project spread over several shop visits.
Did you know: The laws of the game require a goalkeeper to wear colours distinguishing them from both teams and the officials — the only player whose kit is regulated separately.
