About this minifigure
In Japanese history a ronin was a samurai who had lost his lord and had to make his own way. That is where the air of independence, and of suspicion, comes from — the one the character still carries through popular culture, from old period films to modern games.
Atmosphere is what this one trades in: a Japanese village diorama needs no other props once the Ronin is standing in it.
Children need none of the history: a wandering warrior with a secret is plenty, and they will fill in the rest themselves. Parents are better served by a different piece of knowledge — if a child is specifically hunting the Ronin, one rummage through the shop basket may not be enough.
Did you know: The Japanese word rōnin is written with characters meaning "wave person" — someone drifting without a place or a master.
