About this minifigure
Nearly every collectible LEGO series keeps one figure on the scary-but-funny shelf: a monster, a ghost or the nightmare under the bed, made safe enough to play with. This time the job goes to a character built directly on the folk idea of a nameless bogey, a creature with no fixed appearance because it looks different in every telling. Versions of him have been frightening children into bed for centuries, and LEGO has defanged this one with a single printed word.
Parents hesitate over him longest; children decide fastest. Younger fans love having one villain in the box, because without someone to chase there is no game, and a bogeyman in brick form is entirely tame โ he has a printed expression and fits in your hand.
Collectors think about context instead. Figures like this usually end up in a separate Halloween cabinet, in the company of witches, werewolves and ghosts from earlier series.
Did you know: Almost every culture has its own version of the creature that frightens children, from the English Bogeyman to the Spanish El Coco.
