Out of the packet comes a wolf pup in a brand-new mould, and the outlaw it belongs to wears the black-and-grey colours of the Wolfpack, the faction last seen in the Castle sets of the early nineties.

Data Matrix codes: Wolfpack Beastmaster

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Wolfpack were a band of forest renegades introduced to the Castle theme in 1992, instantly recognisable by those colours and by the wolf's head crest. For a lot of adult LEGO fans this is a childhood minifigure, which is why the refreshed version had collector forums talking well before the series reached shops.

The packet is unusually generous. Besides the pup there is a soft black hooded cape, a triangular shield with a silver wolf printed on it, and a sword. The head is printed on both sides: a snarl on one face, and on the other the half-closed eyes of someone whistling for his pet. That much detail in a single bag is rare, and it is the main reason this one is treated as the chase figure of the series.

He works straight away in play, dropping into any castle setting as a threat to the knights or a lone tracker, and the pup is a small prize in itself. Children usually like LEGO animals even more than the minifigures holding them.

Did you know: The pup is the first real wolf mould in LEGO history โ€” in more than thirty years of Wolfpack, nobody in the faction had ever been given an animal of their own.
