Fierce Barbarian
If a monster is already standing on the shelf, the Fierce Barbarian gets pointed at it within a minute of coming out of the box. The figure belongs to the sword-and-sorcery end of fantasy, and the fight begins long before anybody invents a plot.

About this minifigure
The barbarian is an archetype with real weight: someone who comes in from the wild edges, distrusts cities and solves problems directly. Fantasy fiction has built dozens of heroes on it, paperback covers and sword-and-sorcery films carried the same figure for decades, and roleplaying games turned it into one of the basic character classes.
In a collection it fills out castle and fantasy scenes, and its natural opponents are in the same series: the Vampire Knight and the Harpy. It is not tied to any licence, so it fits anywhere — a castle, a cave, an expedition into the unknown.
Children like it for a simpler reason: here is a tough warrior ready to take on a beast. It reads as ready for a fight while staying firmly within a storybook register. In household battles of knights against monsters it usually takes the lead very quickly.
Did you know: The word "barbarian" comes from Greek. The Greeks applied it to anyone whose speech sounded to them like meaningless "bar-bar" — foreigners, in other words.
