Pet Groomer

LEGO Series 25 · 71045 No. 12
✂️

Whoever unpacks this one usually reaches for the animal figures next, and a salon assembles itself out of whatever is already on the shelf. The Pet Groomer clips, brushes and bathes animals for a living, which turns out to be an unusually playable job.

Data Matrix codes: Pet Groomer

One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 3.

About this minifigure

Pet grooming is a trade that has come out of its niche in recent years — most decent-sized neighbourhoods now have a dog salon within walking distance. Instead of another chef or postman, LEGO went for a subject that feels fresh and is still recognisable at once, since plenty of children have been to one with their own dog.

The scenario runs itself, from the waiting area to a visit that ends in a brand-new haircut, and there are more play ideas in it than in many a fantasy character. Anyone with animal figures from earlier series finally has somebody to give them a purpose.

For a collector it is a dependable piece of the city cast: the pet shop, the vet's surgery, the dog park. Together with the Goatherd it forms an unofficial duo of people who work with animals. The character is calm and warm, with nothing difficult to explain.

Did you know: The distinctive poodle clip is usually explained by work in cold water: the dogs retrieved birds, so part of the coat was shaved for freedom of movement, while tufts over the joints and chest were left for warmth.
