About this vehicle
On a real site the loader stays in constant motion. It pulls up to the gravel pile, takes a full bucket, reverses, tips the load into a dump truck and goes back for more. Children who like hauling things about and tipping them out again tend to run the rest of the play through this vehicle.
In the 42233 miniature the bucket genuinely works. A knob sits at the back of the model, and a worm gear passes the movement along to the arm, so the bucket holds whatever position you leave it in instead of flopping loosely up and down. For a build of a few dozen pieces, that is more mechanism than you would expect to find.
It pairs best with the Dump Truck: load one, tip it into the other, and the two of them keep children busy for hours. A shelf also looks short without it, because that low, ground-hugging bucket reads as building site faster than almost anything else.
Did you know: The bucket is raised by a knob at the back of the model, with a worm gear carrying the movement โ the same trick LEGO uses in full-size Technic sets.
