Mobile Crane
There is always one builder in the house who takes the Mobile Crane out of the box, stands it on the table and starts looking round for something small enough to hoist.
Data Matrix codes: Mobile Crane
One of these codes is printed on the bottom of the box, next to the barcode.

LEGO prints a different code for each production batch and region, which is why one item has several. The scanner recognises all 2.
About this vehicle
Everything else in this set works along the ground; the Mobile Crane reaches upwards. It arrives along the road, plants itself and puts a load where nobody could have carried it by hand, while the rest of the crew hauls, pushes and mixes.
The miniature captures the silhouette and a single movement: the boom raises and lowers. There is no telescoping section, no outriggers and no hook on a line, so this is a model for looking at and posing rather than for lifting anything. It also takes longer to build than anything else in the box, noticeably longer than the Road Roller or the Bulldozer.
On a shelf it naturally ends up at the centre of the arrangement, because it stands taller than the rest and gives the group a focal point. Collectors tend to treat it as the obligatory piece the set gets built around.
Did you know: The boom only raises and lowers โ unlike a full-size mobile crane, the model has no telescoping section, no outriggers and no hook.
